- 2021 International Trade
Team17 Group plc is honoured to be recognised with The Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2021. Founded in 1990, the company is a multi-award-winning video games developer, independent games label and creative partner for games development studios around the world.
Floated on AIM in 2018, Team17 enjoys an extensive portfolio of over 110 titles, including the iconic and beloved Worms franchise, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2020. Based across three sites, two development studios (in Salford, Greater Manchester and Wakefield, Yorkshire) and a commercial office on the outskirts of Nottingham, Team17 is one of the most recognised developers and publishers in the global games industry – one that embodies the spirit of independent games.
Led by Chief Executive Officer, Debbie Bestwick MBE, who described being honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise as ‘humbling recognition’ of the efforts made by the company over the past three decades, Team17 continues to entertain millions of gamers of all ages across the world.
During the classic era of home computing in the early to mid-1990s, Team17 produced a selection of varied and engaging titles, including Worms and Alien Breed, later partnering with a range of publishers and bringing games onto consoles from Nintendo, SEGA, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Team17 launched its own independent games label in 2014, offering the expertise of its ‘Teamsters’ across all disciplines of game development, release management, marketing, sales and lifecycle support to games studios across Europe, Asia, Oceania and the Americas.
In 2020, Team17 launched a dozen titles across a range of genres and platforms, including two launch titles for the new generation of Xbox and PlayStation consoles: Worms Rumble and Overcooked! All You Can Eat. It was also a landmark year as the company celebrated its 30th anniversary, during which it was recognised with a number of prestigious games industry awards including Publisher of the Year at the MCV/Develop Awards, Publishing Star of the Year at the Develop:Star Awards, and a joint induction (alongside Worms) into the Golden Joysticks Hall of Fame.
Team17 is already off to a great start in 2021, launching seven new games so far with plenty more to follow during the rest of the year.
