Premier Tooling Systems Ltd is located in Accrington, Lancashire, right in the heart of the UK Aerospace manufacturing district. Founded in 2005 by three engineers: Ian Lane, David Pilkington and Lee Jackson; Premier Tooling Systems set out to become exactly that: premier.
From the outset, the business combined a passion for engineering with a simple but important philosophy of ‘quality & delivery’ – both of which are vital when manufacturing for industries like Healthcare, Aerospace, Automotive, Defence and Packaging. Over time, ompany grew its team and expanded its client base.
Building on their long-standing friendships forged from previous appointments and a commercial background developed over 50 years in the industry; Premier Tooling quickly established itself as a leading precision engineering company. Ian’s specialist knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) welding helped the company flourish, supporting development and manufacturing for healthcare and medical device manufacturers across the UK and Europe. Aerospace tooling manufacture is a major underpinning to the company’s expertise, which brought opportunities that the company capitalised on.
Sadly, Lee passed away in 2013. This was a difficult time for the close team, but they pushed on, strengthening the foundations and developing the company to new heights. That team has now grown annually to a full-time staff base of 14 in 2020, and a client base extending all across the globe.
Supporting the UK Apprenticeship scheme has always been important to Premier Tooling.
Many of the team have grown with the company, progressing through the ranks. David spent seven years teaching Mechanical and Production Engineering Apprenticeships at NVQ Level 3, and echoes this through the factory. Continually developing local talent, the company aims to secure its place in UK manufacturing long into the future.
The firm’s manufacturing facilities include separate design, development and testing departments, a workshop, assembly area and a dedicated inspection room with CMM. Cutting-edge CAD systems operated by an experienced design team feed an extensive machining capacity where modern CNC capability ensures fine tolerances are achieved and delivered under tight timescales.
However, traditional engineering techniques are still at the heart of the foundations here, with the highly-skilled engineers crafting, assembling and finishing the tooling with the meticulous care and precision that was instilled in them from way back when.
From individual manufacturers to global PLCs, Premier Tooling is fortunate to work with clients at the peak of their industry, many of whom manufacture critical patient care products and are responsible for providing comfort, safety and lifesaving technologies across the world.
Project diversity is vast, from fluid-holding medical devices (like blood bags and ostomy care) and military and pilot safety (such as life-jackets, life rafts and helmets) to commercial flight life-jackets and a variety of other marine safety equipment. Automotive projects include interior components and systems, and packaging projects featuring vacuum forming, material moulding and processing.
Extensive technical experience in the design, manufacture and application of finished products has seen the company develop close relationships with many of its clients; supporting development, testing and manufacture and helping companies bring their products to market. It’s this caring and supportive approach, along with a drive to deliver quality solutions that sets Premier Tooling apart from the rest. Now in its 15th year, Premier Tooling continues to travel further across the globe to grow and support its client base. This is a dedicated family orientated business with a big heart that continues to play an important role in UK and global manufacturing.
