Eminox – Bridging the gap to a zero-emissions future.
Air pollution is responsible for over 30,000 premature deaths in the UK each year and around 4.2 million worldwide. Reducing vehicle emissions is central to improving air quality, meeting tightening environmental regulations and improving public health.
Established in 1978 and based in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, Eminox designs and manufactures sustainable, technologically-advanced exhaust aftertreatment systems. These reduce exhaust pollutant emissions from on-road, non-road mobile machinery (NRMM), rail, marine and power generation applications, worldwide. Essentially, Eminox helps improve air quality and bridges the gap to a zero-emissions future. Over the past decade alone, its technology has prevented more than 25,000 tonnes of harmful NOx from entering the atmosphere in some of the world’s most polluted countries.
The company supplies its systems directly to global manufacturers looking to integrate them into their vehicles and equipment, as well as to operators (such as bus and coach companies, hauliers and rail companies), which retro-fit them to older vehicles to achieve the latest equivalent emissions standards. Eminox technology has been fitted to thousands of buses in cities including Paris, London, Santiago, Hong Kong and Barcelona. Volvo, Iveco, Liebherr and Arriva Group are just some of the company’s satisfied customers.
Supporting emissions reduction objectives
Pollution is a global issue. This makes Eminox’s technology applicable around the world as governments, manufacturers, and transport operators seek effective solutions to reduce emissions from heavy-duty vehicles.
The business has exported for 30 years, but has seen exports accelerate over recent years, with overseas sales growing by 146% over the three-year application period for the Queen’s Award (exported sales have risen to 67% of the company’s total sales during the same time frame). This has been driven by increased production capability within the UK, combined with significant investment enabling Eminox to become a full solution partner to global vehicle manufacturers. At the same time, diversification from the diesel market into alternative and sustainable fuels, along with a joint venture in China, provides geographic scope to deliver cost-efficient emissions-reduction solutions to international markets.
Market knowledge and expertise
Eminox employs more than 300 people, with the majority based at its modern UK manufacturing HQ. Research and development expertise is central to the company’s success, and it has invested heavily in building the resources and capabilities required to compete in global markets. This has been recognised by several honours, including the 2018 Air Quality Awards, London Transport Awards, and Ecofira Award (Spain).
The scope of projects undertaken by Eminox helps drive synergies across the business. By understanding the demands of both on-road and non-road applications, its engineers can transfer product development processes between manufacturer and retrofit projects, providing cost-effective, rapid responses.
The Eminox team includes a range of technical specialists in 3D design, computational fluid dynamics and finite element analysis, and its manufacturing facility is accredited to IATF 16949:2016, the global automotive standard. All products are designed within the UK and manufactured in-house.
Future plans for growth
The need for improved air quality is driving greater global legislation and the introduction of clear air zones in many cities around the world. Eminox is focused on helping customers achieve their advancing emissions reduction challenges. The company aims to develop innovative new technologies that will help manufacturers and operators meet global emissions standards.
