Wakefield-based company AES Limited awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category. Founded in 1992 by dynamic entrepreneur James Fawkes, AES Limited has become the leading global distributor and exporter of Harnessflex Conduit Systems, supplying products that protect critical electrical and electronic wiring cabling assemblies in the automotive industry. It now employs eleven members of staff and serves 37 international markets: impressive indeed for a company that started life in a 10×8 ft. garden shed!

AES Limited moved to its first commercial premises in 1995, but by 1997, a larger base was clearly required. By 2004, further warehouse and office facilities were added and in 2006, the company created its first website and e-commerce facility. In 2012, it moved to an 8,000 sq/ft. unit with a 1000 sq/ft. storage unit added in 2013.
It was in October 2014 that AES Export was founded. It remains the vehicle for all international and export business, giving the organisation’s customer base a clear identity for overseas trade and enabling it to drive targeted marketing and business development activities. The result has been improved service levels and productivity.
By 2015, AES Limited was exporting to more than 30 countries. In September 2016, AES USA Corporation launched in Illinois, meeting the increasing demand of the US market and supporting US-to-US sales, in addition to customers in Mexico, Canada, Paraguay, China and Brazil.
The future is looking very positive indeed for AES Limited. Continuing to build on its success, further strengthening its market position nationally and internationally, and raising brand awareness globally will form part of its 2020/21 strategy.
