Aspen Pumps Group [Aspen] is thrilled to be receiving a third Queen’s Award for Enterprise, this time for International Trade, following two previous wins for International Trade in 2009 and Innovation in 2014.
Founded in 1992 by three engineers, Aspen’s story has humble beginnings. The development of a range of air conditioning pumps bridged a gap in the ‘HVAC’ market – and Aspen Pumps was born. Now, 27 years later and through continued innovation, Aspen boasts an impressive range of pumps to suit every application, as well as a full range of installation accessories, tools and chemicals. Aspen’s success has been built by the hands-on experience of installation engineers: expert knowledge that has contributed to Aspen’s position as the market leader in condensate removal.
Now an international group, Aspen houses six brands, all designed with a focus on meeting the needs of the air conditioning engineer. Providing market specific product and service offerings has enabled Aspen to provide a ‘one-stop shop’ solution to HVAC engineers which has, in turn, allowed the company to build strong relationships with distributors worldwide.
A private equity investment from 3i PLC in 2015 enabled Aspen to make key business acquisitions in France, Germany, Australia and most recently in the UK with JAVAC and Advanced Engineering. This has allowed the company to better service customers in core markets with stock on the ground and territory based sales managers. This shift has propelled Aspen onto the global stage, making the company a key player in the international HVAC market with an impressive global pump market share.
Among the other brands within the group are Big Foot Systems who design and manufacture rooftop support systems, providing standard, custom and bespoke designs to suit every project. JAVAC, a market leading HVAC tool manufacturer came on board in 2017, specialising in vacuum pumps, refrigeration recovery units and tools for the HVAC industry. Advanced Engineering is the most recent addition to the Aspen family as of 2019, and brings 35 years’ experience in coil cleaners and service equipment.
Key strategic decisions have led to investment in new product lines, resource, systems and operations, ensuring the business will continue on its upward trajectory in international markets over the next five years. With international markets providing additional platforms for growth, Aspen is fast becoming a key player in the international HVAC market.
Reflecting on the significance of the Queen’s Award, CEO Adrian Thompson said: “Winning a third Queen’s Award is a huge achievement for Aspen Pumps and is testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone in the Group. A relentless focus on innovation and excellent customer relations have been the cornerstone of our success. We have an outstanding team and I am immensely proud that every facet of the business has contributed to winning this award.”
Aspen’s continual commitment to innovation, expert knowledge of the industry and global marketing achievements have seen the business thrive, trebling in size in the last 10 years. As the only ACR ancillaries business with a truly global reach, Aspen trades in over 100 countries worldwide with business premises on four continents.
Receiving the Queen’s Award for International Trade in 2019 exemplifies the achievements of this British manufacturer as it moves towards increasing recognition as a global brand leader.
