When The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise were established in 1965, I could not have imagined how much they would grow in strength and reputation over the next 50 years.
Today, the Awards are widely recognised as a highly valued mark of excellence, across many sectors, in a diverse and competitive business market. I am delighted to see the Awards celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2015 and congratulate the six and a half thousand recipients over those years.
Society, economics and commerce have been transformed during the last half-century. Our increased reliance on technology, deeper understanding of our impact on the environment and greater opportunities for commercial success in international trade have ensured the Awards have evolved to reflect life in the United Kingdom and overseas.
Having watched the Awards established in my name grow in stature and influence, I continue to be impressed by the way that they have given opportunity to big organisations and small, enabling them to project themselves on the world stage using an internationally recognised symbol of excellence.
I hope that their success will help future generations and inspire many other businesses to follow their example in the years to come.
