The Queen’s Awards provide an opportunity to celebrate and encourage excellence in the UK business. The 2020 winners have achieved outstanding results in their fields.  Their achievements in these testing times will, I believe, prove an inspiration to others.

Covid-19 is casting a very large shadow over the world economy.  As in other countries, here in the UK output has fallen suddenly in one of the most dramatic changes in economic conditions ever seen.  It is against this most difficult back drop that it gives me great pleasure, for the first time as Governor of the Bank of England, to congratulate the winners of the 2020 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise.

The challenge for us all is to get our economy started again consistent with robust public health measures.  The Bank of England will play its part in supporting the wellbeing and livelihoods of people in the UK by promoting and maintaining monetary and financial stability.  That is our duty and responsibility.  The choices facing us all will, I am sure, continue to be difficult for some time.  But a commitment to enterprise, innovation and sustainability will help to see us through.  The Queen’s Awards are a time to celebrate these most important qualities.
