HL Plastics, one of the UK’s leading PVCu extrusion companies, is a proud recipient of a 2017 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation.
The accolade is a strong endorsement of the pioneering designs behind the success of
the company’s Liniar brand within the window industry – specifically the revolutionary ModLok™ bi-folding door.
With a reputation for innovation, quality and customer loyalty, HL Plastics was originally formed in 1974. Its premises today consist of a purpose-built extrusion plant, warehouse and offices in Denby, Derbyshire, together with one of the biggest PVCu mixing plants in Europe.
The Liniar brand
The company has enjoyed substantial growth
in the UK manufacturing sector since the launch
of its Liniar-branded range of PVCu windows,
doors, conservatories and outdoor products.
The Liniar range consists of three distinctly different types of product serving different
Windows, doors, conservatory roofs and building supplies for fabricators and installers
Decking and fencing for holiday parks, gardeners and landscapers
Plastic piling for construction, waterways, retention and flood prevention.
With a 500-strong team keeping operations running throughout the year, HL Plastics is one of the area’s largest employers.
The company has a history of developing young talent; offering apprenticeships and promoting from within wherever possible.
In-house tooling, maintenance, design and development and technical departments benefit from years of expertise, ensuring Liniar products push the boundaries with innovative new launches. The Liniar brand’s current count of 49 patents and registered designs is testament to the continuous development across the whole product range.
Former Prime Minister David Cameron visited
the factory in 2014 to host a PM Direct session with 150 of the workforce and praised the company for its growth in the manufacturing sector.
An exceptional team
Entrepreneur Roger Hartshorn commenced his career on the shop floor at HL Plastics in 1977 as
an apprentice and is now CEO. Roger, the creator
of the Liniar brand, said:
“The Queen’s Award is the ultimate tribute
for a business – so to win an award, particularly
for innovation, is a massive honour. It’s also a fantastic reflection on the exceptional team we have here and the high standards of the products we create.
“I’m delighted that the Liniar ModLok™
bi-fold has been recognised for its revolutionary design, with a combined lock and reinforcement exoskeleton which makes it possible for a PVCu
bi-fold to act as an aluminium door.
“The many clever concepts that combined to create the ModLok™ technology meant that it was a real game-changer when it was launched to market, and we believe that it’s still the best available.
Success breeds success
“The principles behind the success of the innovation have been used in other products since, including our first aluminium product; Alumina by Liniar bi-folding doors were launched last year
to great acclaim.
“Winning this award coincides with the opening of our impressive new 178,000ft² warehouse and showroom facility, further cementing our commitment to expansion and improvement and creating more jobs in the region.”
