J W Galloway Limited, now a major British Meat Company based in Scotland was founded in 1920, and was, until the 1980's, primarily a retail butchery company, with some 54 branches throughout the central belt of Scotland.
The first move into manufacturing in the late 1930's was to ensure a consistent quality of all manufactured products in what had already become a substantial number of retail branches. Scotbeef Limited, was set up in the 1960's to ensure the same control and consistent quality over all the meat that was being handled through the branches.
In the 1980's with the changes that were taking place in the meat industry, the decision was made to concentrate on slaughtering and processing for the major multiple retailers.
Today with a turnover of £214m, and with over 730 employees the company has the capacity to
produce the entire range of beef and lamb cuts, and products, in 
four advanced factories, effectively operating as two divisions.

Vivers Scotlamb Limited - (Dornock) - Sheep
Processing Division
Scotbeef Limited - Queenslie (Glasgow) - Manufacturing, processing, and retail packing 
of beef and lamb.
Scotbeef Limited - East Kilbride - Manufacturing, processing, and retail packing of beef and lamb.
Mr Ian Galloway CBE, third generation of the family who own and manage the company, and current Chairman was delighted to acknowledge that the hard work of the companies staff and their suppliers had been a major factor in achieving the Queens Award for International Trade. "The continuing success of our export sales, which now represent 20% of total turnover, is very much due to the combined effort of our farmers who ensure the supply of top quality livestock, the staff in all the plants and continued investment in equipment, facilities, technology and innovation, which ensure that the quality of the final product consistently meets or exceeds the customers requirements. We are now regularly exporting to  nine countries and our experience 
of having been retailers ourselves as well as long term suppliers to major UK retailers has been a great help in understanding our export customers and their individual requirements.
